Week One

This week Cole, Dave, and I got started our senior project, which was to help Kelly get the 5K road race set up and create a charity street hockey tournament for youth hockey players in the area as well as for Proctor students. To get our week started we initially had to help Kelly get more students to sign up for the 5K. To get people to sign up Cole and I walked around campus to find students we thought would enjoy the road race, we also would let them know that by signing up they would receive a free t-shirt as well. We found the maximum amount of people to sign up by going into the library and especially the dining hall. We were able to find even more people then needed, to help make the race more money. To also help with the race this weekend we helped count up shirt number, sizes, and the color of the shirt. To begin with our street hockey tournament we initially had to find a location. We planned on doing it in the rink, and we were able to confirm with the rink manager Tim that it would be okay to use it. After we had our location we needed to figure out how to get the word out about the tournament to Proctor students a local children. To get in touch with the youth, we wanted to find teachers who have children playing hockey for Kearsarge, as well as just kids in the area that were interested. We were able to talk to Jill and Fiona about getting the word out to people they know. To get the word out to Proctor students we thought we would need a flyer that would grab everyone’s attention. Since I am very interested in Graphic Design, I made a flyer in Photoshop to hang around the school that had all of our information on it. After I made it my partners and I hung them all around the school. Along with the flyer we wanted to make an assembly announcement where we would explain the tournament and the Martin Richard foundation, which is where all the money would go. Cole found a video that we played at assembly and we thought it was a great way to get people excited for the tournament. We also wanted to get some local companies to help with donations for the winners. We were able to get gift cards from Tuckers, The Flying Goose, and Pizza Chef. Overall we felt like the first week was a great success and can’t wait to make the tournament and race grow.
